How to get back into the gym after a few weeks hiatus
We’ve all been there. Stuck in a spiral of guilt after taking a few weeks off the gym. Perhaps we didn’t have the time, perhaps we didn’t have the motivation. Whatever the case, it’s not the end of the world. You can get back into it and here are a few tips to help you do just that.
Find some friends
Few things are better for your motivation than working out with others. It’s been shown that we release more of the chemicals that make us feel happy and resist the feelings of exertion that come with exercise when we do it with company, so why not join a new group fitness class? What’s more, when we know others are expecting us, we feel more accountable, so we’re less likely to skip out on a workout.
Switch things up
If you’ve taken a break and you’re coming back to the same old fitness routine, it can be hard to feel excited about it. Variety is the spice of life and novelty can make it much easier to get back to training. Try some new equipment at the gym or look online for new routines you can download or YouTube fitness tutorials. The challenge of something new can make it much easier to build a routine again.
